IFTA stands for International Fuel Tax Agreement. An agreement between 48 US states and 10 Canadian provinces simplifies the reporting of fuel use by motor carriers operating in multiple jurisdictions.

All commercial motor carriers operating in multiple jurisdictions and using qualifying motor vehicles must file IFTA quarterly fuel tax returns.

IFTA filing is due on the last day of the month following the end of each quarter. Note: If the due date falls on a weekend or public holiday, then the due date will be on the next business day.

To file an IFTA return, you will need to provide the total number of miles traveled and the total amount of fuel consumed in each jurisdiction where you operated during the reporting period.
